Radiator Support to Hood Seal?

I wonder if someone can clarify something for me. I noticed that '65
six-cylinder Mustangs have a Radiator Support to Hood Seal. It's a rubber
gasket that effectively blocks off the space between the hood and the radiator
support. However, I don't ever recall seeing this seal on Mustangs equipped
with V-8 engines.
Does anyone know why this seal was present on the 6-cylinder model, but not
the V-8? Is it to force the air to go through the radiator? Or is there
another purpose for the seal?

staple holes on the others as far as I recall. Are you sure about their use
on eights? Of course you never know about original ac cars without the buck
tag or build sheet.

I have a Dec 1965 Mustang, non-air made in Milpitas/San Jose, I don't have
any staple holes or any rubber in the front of the radiator. I often
wondered why this was being sold in the trade magazines, because mine never
had the rubber in the beginning.
Should I??? What effect does it have have?
