Unknown Owner's 1967 MG MGB
|
“MAX”
My father-in-law purchased this MGB new in December 1966 in California where he was the warranty manager for BMC in San Francisco. It had overdrive and chrome wire wheels. He swapped the chrome wire wheels for a factory hardtop at the time of purchase.
The car has been driven around the country to MG events over the years and in 1990 the original 3 syncro overdrive box wasted a lay shaft (only 50k miles). I replaced the trans with a 1976 overdrive box at that time. I have taken care of the car for him for the past 28 years, but 3 years ago he thought I was too busy at the law firm (I lived in SoCal and he lived in NoCal). so he had the engine overhauled by an "MG GURU" in the bay area....who shall remain nameless....real bad job. It now has an aluminum head, 1 3/4" carbs and numerous failings. I plan to pull it out and 'fix' it.
My father-in-law died while snorkeling in Tahiti last spring at age 85 (2008) and the car was passed to me.
Not going to restore it...just drive it like he would have.
