Dear Sander:
Sounds like a plausibe explaination . . . but . . .
I have a DIS ignition with no distributor and just a pick up on the
harmonic balancer.
So, either the dealer is B.S.ing me or this thing is something else
that they are referring to in the service order.
Any other ideas what it might be?
Thanks in advance!
Sincerely,
Matt Silveira

I gave some explanantion on Octane Rods in Distributors.

I'll have to look that up in my EEC book. I guess a DIS pickup needs an offset
as well. Ie. maybe an octane rod would give the rotor an offset relative
to the crank. This is specualtion though.

How much did they charge for it? It's just a piece of metal and instalation
on my Xr should only take 40 minutes or even less.

nope, sorry.
Eric replied to me on the ignition problem he's having:

Mine is definately not smooth. I assume you had the fuel pressure checked
and everything, right? Smoothing out would suggest that the pump can't
supply all the fuel the injectors are putting away. I seem to remember
that you have an aftermarket pump or something. That probably means
you also check pressure and flow on a regular basis.

my Xr is at a tuneup place right now. A new tachometer showed that the
ignition signal is bad. It gave the same low reading as my old one, even
if I hooked it up manually, bypassing the harness. Hope they find
something.
