The right rear lamp lens on my '93 LX was smashed yesterday. Ford wants
$142 Canadian. Does anyone know if these are the same from '87 on up ? If
so I will try to get one from a wreckers yard.

There's not much to the job; you'll have to get access behind the
interior panels at the rear of the cargo area, as there are several
screws holding the lenses on.
The seal really does need to be replaced if the car is more than a year
or two old, as it takes a set. On my '85 Mustang, there was some
tarlike sealer substance that had to be replaced. I don't know if the
'87-up cars still use this stuff.

That's the butyl. Any glass shop will have it by the roll too. Silicon works
well also.

The only advice I can offer relates to the use of the butyl seal. DON'T FORGET
IT.
I have had to re-replace the rear lens of a non-Ford vehicle and the reason
for the redo was the lack of seal by the previous installer. The car was used
and kept leaking around the backend and filling with water when it rained.
Finnally, I figured out that the water was coming in around the rear lens. I
used clear silicone and presto chango, no more leak. Best of luck!
