Don't touch that dial... WE are in control...

A couple of days ago I was replying to a piece of email and
inadvertently routed the message to the ford list as well as the
intended recipient. A good portion of the message dealt with my
personal opinion of Gary Gitzen, moderator of the mustang list.

I'm pretty sure I didn't say anything in the message I haven't already
said to Gary by mail, but that sort of thing doesn't need to get blasted
across a whole mailing list. Gary and I have been doing quite well with
live-and-let-live, and like I said in the unfortunately distributed
message, getting flamed by Gary isn't anything personal anyway. I'd
like to offer my apologies to Gary for dragging my opinions out in
public, and to Chuck for doing it on his list, and to the rest of you
for wasting your time with this sort of stuff.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming...

Thanks, Dave, for saying what I'd been biting my tongue on for a couple
of days.

[puts on moderator hat]

This is not the place to rag on other net.individuals. It's no secret
that I started this list so I and others wouldn't have the threat of
moderation hanging over our heads. But I'm still an active member of
the Mustangs list, and I don't intend to drop out any time soon. Let's
not turn this into the Gary Gitzen Hate Mail List.

And, as always, think twice before you send *anything*, from a me-too to
a detailed diatribe. It's a lesson I had to learn the hard way too.

While I'm playing list mom here, it's great that there's so much
late model Mustang action on this list. But don't forget there are lots
of other Fords and Ford owners represented here. If you Cobra and Capri
guys get tired of the 5.0 yammering, start talking about some of the
interesting things going on in your garage.

One other bit of administrivia: Monday's digest was delayed because, for
the first time in Fordnatics' short history, the digest was bigger than
50KB! The digest script gives up when it sees that much mail in one
lump. I had to break it in half to send it. Please keep up the good
work!

We now return control to you.

ObFords: Gee, so now I have this set of spare 5.0 heads gathering dust.
Looks like it will be a while before I need them again. Anybody got
some good low-buck porting tips?

Unless you're going to compete in some racing class that requires stock
heads, I wouldn't put much effort into them. Port match, clean up the
bowls, grind the Thermactor boogers out of the exhaust side if they
carried over into the 5.0. Though $500-$700 for a pair of Dart heads
might seem expensive at first, you can put *much* more time and money
into the stockers and you might, if you're lucky, match the stock Darts.

I had to drive to Missouri today, and dreamed up something interesting.
*If* you had to use stock head castings, you could just reach in on the
manifold face with a cutter and carve the whole port out. Press in and
braze or weld a new cast iron port liner of whatever configuration you
wanted...
