Some know some don't.

If you don't have an extra distributor. Here's what I did. Went to the
local auto parts store and dug around through that CHEAP pile of junk
sockets and found myself a 1/4 drive extension and 5/16 socket. Also bought
some JB weld. BOOM, BANG, Instant pump drive. The only mod was to I had to
grind the socket down to fit. This cost me less than $5.00.

Oh yeah, remember to buy a heavy duty pump drive shaft. $15.00 from
Stupid Shops. This is probably the weakest spot in the whole motor.

See ya

If you have a chance to upgrade it, another failure prone part on the SB
Ford the front oil gallery plugs under the timing cover. These are
pressed in at the factory but should be replaced after tapping the holes
for a plug. When the pressed in plugs come out, the symptoms are strange.

There is still good oil pressure at the sender but hydraulic lifters
become "pumped down" and the motor feel tired.
