Hi All,

The recent disappearance of two friends' 5.0L Mustangs has me somewhat
concerned about the security of my 5.0L LX. I recall there being some
talk awhile back regarding starting a Mustang security FAQ or something
to that effect. Did such a document get created? If so, can someone
forward me a copy or point to a site where I can find it?

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who might have realistic
suggestions to improve the security of my Mustang. Please reply to me
directly via e-mail as I know others in the past have frowned upon this
type of discussion on the list.

Thanks in advance.

Glen

My suggestion is to get a really good alarm system. I have a Viper 700
system coupled with Invisibeam on my Mustang. The Invisibeam is that
alarm system that talks. If anyone gets within a couple feet of your
stang it will tell them to get away. If they do not move away it will set
off the alarm. I also have a pager on mine, so even if I'm away from the
car and can't hear the alarm I'll still know it's going off. The Viper
has a motion detector, shock sensor, mercury switches on the hood and
hatch, voltage trigger, switches on the doors, a jacking sensor, and a
starter kill. Both systems together cost around $1000 with installation.
It's a good chunk of money, but just ask yourself if your stangs worth it!

The Invisibeam system has been really effective. I've been in restaurants
or other places where I could see the car outside a window. Someone would
pull up and start to park really close to it and break the microwave field
around the car. When they hear the car tell them to "step back, your to close
to the vehicle" alot of times the person is really floored and they'll even
get right back in their car and move!! I've also seen people come up close to
my car because their checking it out and when it tells them their to close
they'll take off really quick. It's loud and usually anyone around will hear
it telling who evers around to beat it..

Also, a lowjack might be something to look into....

for new cars(94 and newer) with keyless entry, ford sells a unit (part #
400k) that piggy backs the keyless system to give you all the features of the
top Ford alarm. the cost is about $160. the first one i put in took 16 hrs
the next one took 3. i learned alot so if anyone needs help drop me a line.
