Hi you all,

We have a new dragracing class over here now that is like the FASTEST STREET
CAR SHOOTOUT was in the US when that thing started 5 years ago. The rules
are very simple : street legal car, licenced and insured, full carpet and
at least two seats, full exhaust (max. 100 dB at 3000 rpm), DOT tyres,
Nitrous is allowed. There are about 12 races (all 1/8 mile) per year on
provisional tracks all over France. The top dogs in the first ET bracket
are running low 8s, but they should improve. The first ET bracket is
determined by selecting the 16 fastest qualifying times, the second bracket
by selecting the 17th to the 32nd qualifier, and so on...They allow 100
cars to each race.

The thing is that I want to return my convertible to a more usable
condition. I want to cruise it more than what I did since this hairy cam is
in there, but it should still be fun to drive. I'd say mid 14s at 95 mph
should be OK. A smooth idle and smaller overlap is also on the list in
order to make the car easier to drive for my wife. She liked to drive it
before, but no more since it has this 318° cam.

So the idea is to have the convertible for family tours and driving to work
with the top down on sunny days and ...(trumpets please)... build a FULL
RACE MUSTANG COUPE !!! I allready collected some parts for that project
(actually leftovers from my current car) :

a pair of 5-leaf rear springs
4 speed toploader
735 cfm Holley
8k VDO tach
Accel 8.8 mm wires
Tilton lightweigt starter

The idea is to get a 67 - 70 coupe that has front disc brakes and a 9 inch
rear and fit it with a 351W or 393W or 410W. The car should be marginally
streetable (like my convertible is now) and turn low 12s with DOT tyres. >
My questions are :

Where can I gain weight on a 67 - 70 Mustang coupe that should be
marginally streetable (like drive 1000 miles + 20 strip passes during a
week-end) ?
Can a 351W without nitrious be sufficent for low 12s in the quarter mile or
high 7s in the eight mile ?

Cheers,

Perhaps not a dedicated "Drag Car" (ya know, stripped interior
and lightweight racing seat, etc) Just your regular street cars.

Hi Kraig,

the reason for the carpet is that you can race in your street clothes and
street shoes. If you wear regular leather sole shoes or cowboy boots and
have no carpet in the car, then it gets pretty slippery in there. So the
reason for the carpet is safety.
