The most economical rear is an 8.8 from a 95 to 01 ford explorer. You can get one with trac-loc, rear discs and 3.73 gears and it does not take much to get it to fit undr your 66.

That's awesome. I didn't know any late model rear ends were
interchangeable. Have you personally done a swap like this on a
65-66? Does anything need to be done with the U-joints/yokes/etc?
I ask because the neighbor across the street has a wrecked 97
explorer V8 sitting in his yard with ~ 75K on the clock that I could
harvest the rear end out of.

It's certainly not a bolt in. The mount is different, as is the flange
on the rear end. Wheel bolt pattern is the same. The Explorer is basically
the same as a late model Mustang rearend. Look for 96-2003 or so. The
current Explorer has IRS....
I have a 97 5.0 Explorer .... not that I know anything about it....

I have not done the swap yet...my 67 is a long ways from drivetrain work but
this is the way I'm 'gonna go when I get there. The bolt pattern is the
same, it does not take much to mate the parking brakes together. You have
to make sure you read the tag on the 8.8 to check that its got an LSD and
the gears you want. This site has some info on decoding tags:

The yoke is diferent than our cars but it can be swaped out with an earlier
ford truck from what I'm told. You are going to need to have access to a
welder to locate new spring perches and to reassemble the axle but its
nothing major. If you want details:
I had been searching for a long time for some one who had done this swap
already.
Go to MustangSteve's FYI page and do a search for "ford project". Look for
posts by Dave Robins 4V starting with (introduction) and ending with (day
