I'm planning some more sheet metal work on my 66 coupe and I'm looking
for vendor recommendations.

What I need include (but not limited to):
rear quarters (both sides)
outer fender wells (both sides)
rear frame rails (both sides)
trunk floor (above frame rails) and drop offs (both sides)

Future sheet metal will include:
front fenders (both sides)
cowl vent replacements (I really should do this first)

*and* this is just what I know I need to replace :-(.

I got floors from Laurel Mountain Mustang and they were fine. If
someone has had good luck from another supplier, please let me know.
I'm itching to get it looking a bit better.

My question would be - how many actual *manufacturers* are there of
repro sheet metal, since I suspect we can count on a lot of places
selling the same bits as one another, and which are good, which are bad,
and which are so-so?

Got the '65 convertible back from the stripper; the rear floorpans are
gone (knew that) and the taillight panel was sloppily replaced at one
point and probably should be redone, along with a little wrinkling in
the rear of the trunk floor (knew that) and there was a bunch of bondo
on the rear fenders, particularly the left rear dented at the wheel arch
(suspected some of that) and pinhole rust in the lower left rear fender
(didn't know that one.)

All in all, not bad for a shell I got for free.

Everything forward of the rear floorpans is perfect, except for some
past patch-work under the battery tray area - this is going to be a
spousal driver, not a concours piece, so I don't much care.

I'd do the floorpans and other internal patch-work but I'm not going to
try to do visible exterior sheetmetal myself; the question being whether
it's worth trying to save the LR fender or just cut it off, straighten
the wheelwell, and start over. I've got some structural reinforcement
to do on the car, which I'll probably try to do first, then ship the
thing off to the body shop and let them do all the metal and paint at
once.

That means I gotta find a body shop to do the work...

John.

I purchased all of my metal from Mustangs Unlimited. They almost always have
it in stock and have been good to me although you may be able to find it for
a little less somewhere else. I can't compare the quality to anyone else but
I'm pleased with it.
If you are located near Atlanta area I know a good body shop. This guy even
had a car from Louisiana, the owner wouldn't let anyone else touch his car
according to the shop. Again, He may not be the cheapest but he started the
day I dropped the car off and after 3 weeks its almost done. I replaced the
quarters, floors, doors, fenders and hood. Put it all back to drivable
condition and he did all the body work/paint and panel alignment.
Anyway the place is Bales Restorations in Lawrenceville GA 770-963-8855. He
does complete resto's and paint.

You may want to try
1autobodyparts.com/productlist.cfm?model_id=156&keywords=Fend
er&make_id=12&search_on=description&browse=true for parts.

If it helps - I ordered my floor set from KARmustang.com. There seem to be pretty solid 19 guage floors but I can't compare the floors directly to others out there. On another note, the folks there are real easy going and when someone didn't know the answer to a question and had to have someone else call me back - that person actually called me back!

That alone gave em high marks to me. But - each to their own - since economically I have to assume all these guys are getting their pans from one or two main suppliers. Too bad we all can't just order from them directly.
