Jeff,

In some cases there are companies that sell complete new bodies. British
Motor Heritage sells complete body shells for MGB's and Midgets. Essentially
you strip all the mechanicals out of the old cars, transfer the data plate,
and presto, new MG. What happens when somebody finally gets around to doing
this with Mustangs?

Great idea, Considering Ford doesn't make the factory quarter panels for
65'-66' Mustangs anymore. I'd definately be intersted in the back shell/roof
assembly, or even the whole shell minus bolt on body pieces.

At that point, can you truely say that you have a 30 year old car???

It's not the same car anymore, how can it roll around with the same VIN as
a car that rolled of the assembly line 30 years ago?

More of a retorical/ethical question than a legal one...

Thinking about it a bit more it seems more of a kit car. How do kit cars
get their VIN?

I guess you could call such a thing a kit car, but in the case of the BMH
bodies, they actually are stamping the bodies from original dies and the
assemblies are endorsed by the factory.

I do think they come with an MSO of some sort to overcome the legalities.

Reminds me of the story about George Washington's axe. The original is in a
museum. The handle was replaced when it broke, then the head wore out and
was replaced; other than that it's completely original......Sometimes I think
I'm getting to that point on my coupe.
