Pros of Manual Choke in Non-K 66?

Hi all--

I'm sitting here, killing time until my son wakes up for the next
feeding, and I was thinking about manual chokes on carbs--ok, it IS
late. Anyway,I had one on my old MG and loved it. I've always wanted
one on my 4-V 66 GT (non-k code) but have never really had much of a
reason to try it. (I'm not running headers.)

Anything better about a manual over and auto choke? If it ain't broke,
don't fix it?

Off to mix the formula! Have a good night. . . .

One reason...it adds cool factor :-) since high performance cars had manual
chokes in the 60's

Paul,
Having had both (on multiple cars), I vote for a working auto choke.
Why ?
- cleaner dash -- the less hanging things the better (my opinion)
- one less thing to worry about while driving
- once warmed up, they both perform the same (no performance
improvement)
- no cable to worry about, lubricate, adjust.

This is from someone who put a 5spd and manual steering in their car.

If you are having trouble and don't want to deal with it or are fed
up with
an auto choke; I can understand wanting to go the easy route to get
it right.

I can tell you from my experience, the $10 add-ins need to be
lubricated a
lot more often than I would like (every few months). You need to get
them
through the firewall, and some how over to the passenger side.

If I were to add one, I'd try to get the factory (K code) setup. That
should
at least work (and look?) better.

They certainly can! Adam is 11 months old and has been riding in the
66 GT Coupe since he was home. I bought a pair of seat belts and added
them to the inside hookups in the back seat, giving me a seat belt in
the middle. That is where his seat is. He likes to ride in it--the
low drone of the duals helps lull him to sleep, but not as good as the
drone of my wife's VW Jetta Diesel! We've got AC, disk brakes up
front, and such so it isn't as harsh a car as a K code fastback, for
instance. I have a acquaintance that piles his car into his 68 Shelby
and off they go.

I've found that your time will be severely cut back to play with your
car, as will your expendable income, but there is no reason that the
two can't co-exist! I grew up working on cars with my father and I"d
like Adam to do the same. (Secret nightmare: "Dad! Look at the cool
neon I put on my Honda CIVIC! It pulses with the music!"winking smiley

In fact, the first person I told was a guy I had never met at a Mustang
show. (He had the seat belt setup and I quizzed him on it. He asked
if we had a child and I said, not yet. Whoops. My wife still kids me
about that one.)

So, in a nutshell, expect to do nothing on the car for at least 3
months while everybody gets used to everybody else, and you adjust your
sleep schedule. Then, when it is nice a warm, take the little one for
a spin and see how many comments you get NOW--both baby and car.

Remember, the Mustang was originally developed for new families. . . .
