Hi all,
First alittle about the car:
I live in N.W. Georgia, (Ringgold). I just inherited / purchased a '65 coupe
(289 2bbl, c4 trannie, 2.08 rear) from my Grand mother in law, besides
needing the aluminum trim under the driver's door and paint, it is in great
shape. You won't believe me, but the car only had 8,066 miles on it when I
purchased it. It had been sitting for 22 years on stands with a car cover
over it. I massaged the engine back to life and replaced just about every
thing that you can imagine, (carb, alt., fuel pump, H2O pump, M.Cyl., all
wheel cyl. and hoses, ect.... The paint was even on the brake retaining
springs!)
The car is a bronze color, with a palamino interior, the seat backs are
attempting to curl and have pulled away in one corner each, there is some
color flaking off a small area on the rear lower seat part and there is a
small tear (2 inches) in the headliner just above the driver's door. That is
it on interior problems, the seats had a nice coating of mildew on them, but
that came off. The dash is as soft as my wifes '97 malibu. (thanks to the
car cover.) The steering wheel has mega cracking??? don't understand, but
have been told that this was common.
The car had the original (according to the tire guy) Goodyear poly-guides? on
it when I had the tires replaced last week. They are dry rotted and will not
hold air, but they look brand new. (I kept these and most of the things I
have replaced.)
Now for the Questions: (thanks in Advance!)
Any way I have replaced all hoses and belts, and cannot figure out where the
heater shut off is! it has been in the upper 80's all week and it gets
awfull hot in the coupe. Can anyone tell me what I am looking for and where
it is?
I looked up a '67 mustang switch at the auto parts and it looked lile a
vaccume opperated thing, it was round, is that what I am looking for?
Also, I cannot get the dash lights to light up, I have checked the bulbs and
replaced some of them with no avail. The turn signals and high beam as well
as the alt. and oil lights work, just not the dash lights. Also, How can I
fix the little piece of plastic around the shifter, it jumps out and attempts
to jam when shifting.
I am sure I'll have other questions and maybe some answers in the future, so
thanks for your time and I look forward to hearing from you all in the future.
Sincerly,
Casey

Sounds like you got a horrible deal Dude!! Ill take it off your hands fo
$50.00. That way you'l never have to worrie about things like staying up all
night thumbing through summit catalog. You'l never get that "deer stare
while your brain goes over how much you spent on all those parts after some
stranger askes you " How much you want for it ". Youl never have to look
through 500 different issues of mustangs and fast fords looking for that
article you think you read two years ago on how to rebuild your steering
gear box only to find it in the last issue in the pile!

There is no reason to be sarcastic. He asked a serious question. At least
give him the dignity of an answer.
The heater switch is in the middle of the dash. Forget which one exactly
(don't use it). But the vertical sliders control gates that cut off the
heater air flow. Flip the
each one until you don't feel the heat

I'm sorry, I guess everyone missed my point. We're talking a virgin 8K
Mustang and he took off and replaced all those original, unreplaceable parts.
Probably in some landfill by now. I've seen these cosmetic restorations on
original cars before and especially like it when they repaint the engine their
favorite color of blue. With a little effort, this car could have been a
"survivor class" contender. Now its just another daily driver Mustang.

I know what you mean. My 66 does this too. What you need to do is make
sure the diverter door is moving correctly. Open the passenger vent
and look in. Move the heater contol slider up and down. You should see
the diverter move. When it is closes the vent opening, you get full heat
(air is diverted through the heater core and out the vents). If it looks
like it is operating correctly, you might need new gaskets around the
diverter to better seal out the air flow to the heater core.
You will need to replumb the heater hoses if you don't want hot
coolent running through the heater core at all times. That is just
how it works.
My 71 F100 has a valve inside the engine area to bypass coolent
to the heater core. You might want to scan some junk yards for
similar year Fords.

Electrical problems can be hard to diagnose over the Net. My first idea
is to check the head light switch. This controls the dash lights too.
Turning the head light switch back and forth and see if it helps.
