Hello, I just joined and am in the process of reseaching '65-'68 mustangs
before I buy one. I noticed this mailing list doesn't generate much traffic
at all. Is this the "main" mailing list for classic mustangs, or are there
others that I'm not aware of? When I had my '71 olds, their list had over
100 emails per day, and I'm looking for that kind of volume.
thanks,
greg

Yes this is the main one..... much of the traffic has migrated to online
boards (mainly vintage Mustang but those who participate here find this
much quicker and easier

Q: How can we "recruit" more subscribers to this ListServ ??
I've been a subscriber to the Classic Cougar ListServ (now the Classic
Cougar OneList) for quite awhile, and that List is Booming with postings!!
I believe there are over 600 subscribers to that List !
One would think that since Classic Mustangs are much more plentiful, there
would be more activity here. I know there are more sites for Classic
Mustangs and that probably spreads out the population of enthusiasts.
I've been to the Vintage-Mustang Discussion Board and RAMFM newsgroup,
(BTW,both excellent sources of info) but IMHO, I too believe the ListServ
(OneList) forums are much forums to post messages!
I tried to educate the RAMFM users of this forum, and just got "flamed" for
trying to split up that newsgroup! That wasn't my intentions at all !
>From my experience with the Classic Cougar ListServ (and OneList), I feel it
would be beneficial for all if we could increase our subscribers!
What do you guys think ??
I'm getting off me soapbox now. ;-}
Thanks!

I am a new subscriber to the list! Greetings all!
My wife bought me a 1967 Mustang Coupe, 302 engine for my birthday...
I learned to drive on a 1966 Mustang 11 years ago that I had to sell 9 years
ago, so it feels great to be back in the saddle! I'll be fixing her up, so
get ready for lots of questions!!! If you want, check out the picture at

... Thanks!

I agree- this list is surprisingly quiet. I'm also on a Chevy Nova
listserv and I receive 500-600 messages a week. I joined this list last
week in the hope of getting similar traffic and am somewhat disappointed
with the low volume of mail. Don't get me wrong-- the stuff I have
received has been interesting and informative; that's why I wish there was
more! I found out about the Nova list through someone's website, (in fact,
if you type 'Nova' into your browser, you will come across at least a dozen
enthusiast sites that advertise the nova list). Surely there must be more
mustang enthusiasts than there are Nova enthusiasts. After all, isn't the
Mustang the most popular car ever made? Perhaps you folks who have sites
dedicated to your cars could advertise the list. And maybe we could
organize some sort of campaign to let enthusiasts know about the
list. Perhaps a letter to Mustang Monthly? Flyers at car shows? Just
some ideas...

I'm on some other lists that get that volume of traffic and suggest that
people focus on quality, not quantity. The classic Mustang list has a good
history of having more answers than questions and many of the most
knowledgeable people here will answer questions but don't ask too many of
their own.
So, if you're expecting you can sit back and wait for someone else to ask
your question, you may be disappointed. Instead, you should ask your own
questions and prepared to be pleased with the answers.

I am a relatively new subsciber to this list and also to the classic cougar list,
I find alot more traffic on the cougar list, some of which I can use on my
mustang, I am in the process of disassembly of my 71 conv for a restomod and
really am looking for sage advice from anywhere I can get it. I do wish the
mustang list was more active. I tried the one of the mustang newsgroups but found
it full of mostly flames and late model hardware. Please let me know how I can
help make this the best list around

Easy, just ask those questions for which you're looking for sage advice.
Somebody here will most likely have the answer for you.

Maybe Mustangs are just better cars and don't have as many problems as
Novas.

I find the responses very prompt and accurate. I feel that the number of
postings are fine. Too many more and I probably wouldn't have time to read
them. Granted I grace over some of them, I like the fact that if the
question has been answered, you dont get the same response from everyone on
the list. And further, I have yet to have a question unanswered.
Don't get me wrong, I support getting the word out to get more participation
but I don't think that the amount of traffic equals quality.

I have to agree this list has been fairly quiet lately but it does have
times when there is lots of traffic. I got a lot of information from the
people on the list and ended up doing all the mechanical work so far on my
66 fastback. Right now its in for sheet metal replacement and has been for
about 10 months (The shop doing it does mine between his rush restorations
and I am in no hurry since I know its being done right). I did the T-5 swap
and Granada disk brake swap with help from people on the list and have a web
site with my article on how to do the T-5 swap which gets me 2 or 3 emails a
week just with questions on that.
I avoid the other groups because the people are not as friendly or as
helpful and they also tend to focus on late model cars so lets not go
overboard and ruin something good. I think there are plenty of people on
the list but are looking more for quality than quantity, I don't mind
getting fewer mails if every once in a while something helps or I can help
someone but sure don't need any more junk mail.

Greg and Bill,
One of the reasons the Classic Mustang mailing list appears to be sparse is
that most users know about the web page archive of previous messages. The
archive is searchable and contains years of knowledge on all facets of
Mustang history, restoration, upgrades, and supplier tips. If you haven't
already found the hotlink on the Classic Mustang Mailing List Web Site,
search through the historical messages at:
l
istquest.com/lq/search.html?ln=classicmustangs
Using both the archive and the mailing list to research problems, you'll find
ten times the amount of sage advice that you'd get from the 600-message per
week mailing lists. Frankly, if this message board had 600-messages per
week, most of us would not have time to read them....
End of "soap box" derby, i hope....
Glad you can join us on this mailing
list.
Have fun,
