Okay, I found out some helpful news for any of you still using your stock shifter in a 2005-2008 Mustang. I recently ordered a new shift knob for it. My interior is all carbon fiber and with the billet trim pieces in there now, the stock knob just didn't look right anymore. I got one from UPRproducts.com that is a satin-finish billet ball, flat on top, with "V6" engraved on it. It was designed to fit up to a 2004. When I got it, I put it on and it only screwed down 2 threads. So, I took it to 3 different machine shops before I found one that would retap it for me to the correct size.

The correct size for these shift shafts is 12mm by 1.25 thread pitch. Keep this info in case you ever want to do the same thing. Your local FORD dealer does not know what the correct size is (I called them first to find out). There are many shift knobs out there, but they won't all fit. Apparently, FORD decided to change it after 2004. The GT's and the V6's have the same size threads so this applies to them as well. There are a few more choices for the GT's as far as styling for knobs but those of us with V6's are kind of left with a small choice on what we put on there -- billet-wise that is. So, unless you want it to say Steeda or Roush, or just be the shift pattern or blank, you are up a creek ... if you know what I mean.

I now have the shift ball I wanted and I am a happy camper. Check out the attachment if you would like to see it.

Julie
