My new 65 coupe

OK- now to properly introduce the new car. It is a 65 coupe - 6
cylinder with C4 automatic. Manual 4 wheel drum brakes and manual
steering. It is raven black with a red (deluxe) interior and white
headliner. It is surprisingly solid - no rust in the shock towers,
the rockers or the floorboards. The interior is original and in
overall real good shape too. It has some aftermarket wire spoke
wheels on it (4 bolt) and nearly new tires. It just needs some
routine maintenance and a little TLC by freshening up a few areas.
Now for a couple of oddities - it was manufactured in March of 65
(the date code is my birthday, ironically) but it has the early 65
style windshield wiper mechanism with the chrome nuts, and it has the
hood bumpers with the phillips screw in the center. The wiper arms
are one early (no "flange"
and one late (with "flange"
. The hood
and headlight doors are late 65 style (no bevel). When I first saw
the chrome wiper nuts I assumed it was an early 65 - then I decoded
the data plate and found the build date. I haven't had a chance to
look at the other early/late differences yet. Since the build date
was so long after the early/late switchover, I wonder if the early
style parts wound up on the car due to a warranty replacement or some
other repair where the dealer had the early style parts in stock in
it's parts department.

In the 41 years the car has been around, someone probably replaced it
with what they had, what the parts house could get or what was on sale.
As you know--from seeing your stable below your name--you spend the
first year undoing all of the goofy stuff that the previous owners did
along the way. Our PO had tried to install a stereo and hacked the
wiring harness to pieces--some of which he "repaired" by using tennis
ball sized wads of black electrical tape. Some he just twisted
together and left bare.
That's very cool that you and the car were both born on the same day.
