I was just watching the local news, they were talking about the 1996
statistics for our highways here in California. Ford was #1 in fatalities.
Hmmmph.
I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about the V-10 Ford was
supposed to put in their '97 model trucks and vans? Apparently it didn't
happen! Does anyone have any info on this engine? I'm dreaming of a V-10
Cougar. =)

Was that statistic (<-- can be made to sing any song) based on % of all
fatalities or gross number? If the latter, it makes sense, since Ford's
sales have been very high (best selling car AND truck...).

Hmmm. What about the white '97 van that I was driving next to the other
day with the V10 badge? Perhaps a prototype?

I'm not sure what the number was based on. Probably % of all fatalities.

Ohh my. I guess I was wrong! I figured Ford would have done some
advertising about their V10. Are motor mounts available? =)

Actually 5 of the ten top sellers: Taurus, F150, Explorer, Ranger, and
Escort!

Before I get too excited about the news, I'd have to know more about
the types of fatalities you are talking about. If they are highway
fatalities, its more likely to be a result of the number of Ford
vehicles on the road and therefore not an indication of how safe a
Ford vehicle is.
Also, the Triton V10 engine is not dead. Its going to be put
introduced via the Econoline van, and the new Lincoln SUV coming out
in the fall of 1998. Ford will not confirm if the V10 will be offered
in its pickups in the near future, but maybe later on. Competitive
pressure will likely force them into putting into the F series, if
they want to stay #1 in trucks.

That was before they redesigned the Taurus and F-150. Apparently the
fact that they were outselling the competition wasn't enough to justify
having a less aerodynamic design. Personally, I liked both vehicles, but
not the new versions.
