Wal and all who responded--

You were right, I believe. I pulled the cluster, cleaned the ground
contacts with a bit of sand paper, replaced the instument panel reg (the old
one said "assembled in Mexico"--Hmmmmm. . .) with a new one from Borg and
Warner and now my gauges are reading correctly!

While I was at it, I fixed my choke on my autolite 4100 and the talking
mechanism on my 30 year old GI Joe.

I'm on a roll.

Let's see. . .what to fix next. . . .
