Elect. Wiring Help Needed (Ammeter/Oil Press Gauges)

Hopefully someone out there has already done this and can tell me
where I crossed the wires or where I've mis-connected them...
I decided to ask here before trying more combinations. Thanks!

CAR: '69 Must w/Tach in dash wiring
GAUGES: Ammeter & Oil Pressure Gauges
(from Branda came with their new Shelby Console gauge cluster)

Ok, so I followed the instructions and wired the gauges as follows
with the follow strange results... any help is much appreciated...

AMMETER:
Paper that came with gauge says there were three wires:
1)Alternator or Voltage Regulator
2)Positive "+" Side of Battery
<no terminal for the third terminal...>
3)Electrical Ground
Installed the #2 to the obvious + side of the battery, I installed #1
to the "S" block of the Voltage regulator... and didn't connect a
ground since there appears to be no terminal despite the paper diagram.
PROBLEM: Battery fully discharged overnight (dead... 0 reading)... replacing
it with a new battery and powering up the car shows the gauge reading a
full -60 amp reading (actually it goes all the way to the max in the negative
direction). When the key wasn't in the ignition, there was only a slight
negative reading... removing the battery terminal allows the gauge to go
back to "0".

OIL PRESSURE GAUGE:
Paper that came with gauge says there are three wires (there were)
1)Pressure Sender
2)Ground
3)Ignition Terminal On Ignition Switch
Installed #2 to be common with the cigarette lighter ground in my
console, I installed #1 to a split off the Red/Green directly off the
keyed ignition switch (got wiring from 1969 Ford Shop manual), I then
installed #1 to what I was pretty sure was the pressure sender (located
on the top right/front [looking from the front] of my 351W's block.
PROBLEM: When running the engine and driving around... the gauge would
"click" between reading 0 and about 25-30 in approximately 3-5 second
intervals.

Yikes! How tough can this job be... at the moment I've clipped all the
connections (except the ground) that I had made... anyone have any ideas
on how I screwed this up... or are the gauges or instructions bad?

P.S. I completed my wiring saturday after Branda had closed for the
weekend... so I wasn't able to get their assessment...

I would guess you have an idiot light sender and your trying to connect
it to a guage.
