We should start a thread on gauges.

I'm thinking of replacing my 5 gauge (fuel, oil, speedo, amp, temp) stock
gauges with a 6 (or a seventh vacuum gauge) on my 66. I currently have
a 5" Autometer Monster tach but as the name implies it is kind of big.

I was looking at the "R" dash but not sure if that is what I want.

I want:
Fuel, oil pressure, tach, speedo, voltage (don't see the usefullness
of an amp gauge), water temp, (I guess) vacuum, and turn signal
indicators. I would like to keep all gauges in the dash.

I have access to a fab shop so I'll make my own dash.

Any suggestions on gauge manufacturers and size? I recall John Strube
was able to use some Autometer gauges in an existing 5 unit dash.

Any other thoughts?

rick,

i have started on a little project myself. i am putting autometer white
face gauges in my 66 dash cluster. they fit right in with some modification.
i just had to get an old cluster from a junk yard so i wouldnt have to cut up
my original. i have already refurbished the original in case i wanna change
it back someday.

the end result i came up with looks great , like the ones you mentioned
seeing in the magazine, only having one large gauge (speedo) in the center.
as a bonus, the turn signal indicators are kept in the same location..very
stock looking.

i plan to put a matching white face tach in an R model dash pod (and some
other gauge,maybe a clock)

just my 2ยข,
