Hi all,
I had a question on the differences between 1969 Mach 1 428CJ Q-code
(non-RAM) and R-code models. I recently bought a Q-code, and some
bright spark had decided that he could keep the engine cooler by
sawing a hole in the hood underneath the scoop.
Anyway, it looks rather ugly, so I'm looking at ways to fix it. One
way I thought would be to add a shaker to my engine, and open up the
existing hole in the hood to the right size/shape.
So, a couple of questions
- Are the shaker and hood the only differences between the Q and R codes?
If
so, why did Ford bother with seperate designations? Why didn't they just
call it a RAM-air option like on the 351?
- Can I just cut a hole in the hood for the shaker, or are there other
differences between the Q and R code hoods?
- Any other suggestions on how I can hide/repair the hole (aside from just
replacing the hood)?
Thanks,
Chris.

Try a non-shaker hood scoop or a Boss 429 one
