Car was sold new in Los Angeles, and is an honest to God Cooper S. The car was (apparently) raced at the club level around the LA area during the 60's and 70's. The car was fitted with steel flared arches, and a straight cut gearbox before something (engine failure?) sidelined it in 1978.
The car was sold to the brother of one of my colleagues, and stored in an Oceanside garage for 30 years without ever seeing the light of day. I bought it from him in 2008 with a *mountain* of parts.
Car is currently awaiting my attention. The wheels were missing when I got the car, but I have had a set of stock Cooper S wheels widened to 10x6" to fill out the arches. I have the original Cooper S engine, and two original 'S' gearboxes. I plan to do the car back to Almond Green/OEW, and largely stock, but retaining the steel flares in a 'restomod' manner.....even though I hate that term.
