Rick Neves's 1956 Austin-Healey 100
|
“#102”
The Number 102, Blue Austin Healey, is powered by a stock four cylinder engine with subtle improvements limited to “period correct” technologies. The engine is a 2660cc displacement with 8:1 compression ratio. SU H6 Carburetors, pistons and camshaft are improved to the 100-M specification. The 100-M version of the “Big” Healey being a performance-enhanced version, “of the time” either purchased from the factory or available as a customer installed option as has been done in this case to the Number 102.
The History of the 102 dates back to its purchase in Germany by perhaps a US servicemen in 1956. The car was brought to the US in the early sixties where it was purchased by Jeff Hardin of Millis, MA. A graduation gift from his dad, Jeff used the car to travel back and forth to the University of Massachusetts, traveling many miles on the Mass Pike even in snow.
In 1968 the car was put into storage until Rick Neves of Millis, MA purchased and restored it in 2003. In 2005 it began a new life as a show car winning several local awards until 2008 when it began its racing career with the VSCCA and VRG racing organizations.
The 102 has competed in the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix as well as the New Jersey Vintage Grand Prix, and traveled to Lime Rock Park and Watkins Glen as well as Pocono, Thompson, Palmer and the New Jersey Motorsport Park.
