I have to share this story...
My green '93 with tan interior SHO, with 222K miles was dying. I felt it was
time to get her go with some modicum of dignity. Three weeks ago I bought an
'04 300M with 21K on the clock. Nice car, but...
...the day after I was filled with remorse. Sure, the 300M is a nice car and
all. Civilized, refined...but I missed the mean & nasty Yamaha motor.
To make a long story short, I just picked up a silver/black '93. Even though
it has too-dark tinting and wheels that would suggest I'm trying to "get in
touch with my inner pimp", all is right with the world again (sure wish I
would have kept the other for parts, though). I like the Chrysler and will
use it intermittently, but the SHO will be my daily driver.
That said, I have some, umm, issues I need help with.
My AC is working intermittently. What I mean is that everything is great for
a while - nice cold air - then the cold air stops. Nothing else is affected
but the temp of the air. Then, without warning, it will begin to get cold
again. Repeat ad infinitum.
Anybody have any thoughts or suggestions? I would really appreciate it.
Also, a couple of the seat electric functions don't work. Would I need to
find a module to replace the current one? Any ideas?
The CD player is dead. In my other SHO, I had the same problem. I live in
Nashville and there was a place that sent the unit back (New York, maybe?) for
repairs and it worked beautifully thereafter. However, this shop is no longer
extant.
Any thoughts on the CD player? I'd really prefer to keep it OEM if I can.
Thanks for the support I know I'll be requesting...
Rusty Willis

Check the clearence on the A/C clutch. Can't remember what it supposted
to be, but, I bet it is too much.
A simple proceedure to remove the first part of the clutch and put
to back together without tone shim=washer.
Cheap, easy, quick. Try this first.

The factory CD players were made by Sony and are guano. Just notorious.
Even if you can find a working one, they contain components that do not age
well. Do not waste your time cruising eBay looking for a working unit. Put
in an aftermarket CD receiver. It's just part of the life, sorry. My
wife's 95 Taurus LX and my 2000 Mustang have the same Sony-made CD player,
and they're both going to be replaced when they fail, it's just a matter of
time. BTW when you put in an aftermarket CD receiver you'll free up a dash
slot for ... well, there are options.
Seat problems could be dead motors or switches. Probably corrosion. You
can swap in the seat track from any late-model Taurus or Sable, they all
have the same floor pan and bolt pattern.
Others will jump in about the AC.

What part of Nashville are you in? I live in Mt. Juliet....just a few miles
down the road.
The A/C issue sounds like the gap on the clutch is too large, may need to
remove a shim, I hear it is pretty easy, but I've never attempted to do it
myself.
What size are the wheels ? I might be interested in them for track use if
you want to get rid of them.

222K miles, That's all???
Check that the A/C compressor is still turning when it's blowing hot air. I
think you A/C clutch is worn and slipping when it gets hotter. You can shim
the gap but I have found this to be a short time repair. I would replace
just the clutch. The coil underneath is most likely OK unless you have had a
clutch burn up on you? Cost about $60-$100 for parts.
Or you could be low on Freon. Jump the pressure switch at the accumulator
and see if the compressor keeps running. Do you have any A/C gauges to check
the pressures?
Also check what type of Freon the car uses. It should be R-12 but Ford
released some 1993 Taurus/Sable with the R134a. Not many because I have
NEVER found one yet!!
How many miles on the silver SHO?

Rusty:

Or, it could just be the pressure switch, over to the outside of the radiator filler
neck. Those will fail with age and not have a wide enough operating range to let
the system vary in pressure, from high normal to low normal.
Lowrider did that several years after its R-134 conversion. $35 to fix it.
