Anyone drag race a V-6 ATX that could offer some advice?
I may wind up helping the local high school auto shop convert their 95 ATX SHO
to strip duty.
How much abuse can the ATX take?
What are the suggested mods?
Anyone have some ATX E.T.s to share?
Lee

I ran a best of 14.851 at 94.33mph. That was a full weight car with
bolt-ons just short of cams.

If the starting point is a good trans, the car will last a while if you
stay away from the burnout box. Drag slicks or radials may be tough on
the tranny though.

A stock stripped atx should run a low 14.
Run straight pipes and open up the intake. That should net a few hp.
Stiffening the suspension and frame would help traction. A TwEECer or
LPM should be considered mandatory. Maybe you could install a roll bar
with frame stiffeners and cut the roof off for a creative exercise.

I have a lot of ATX drag experience, and my FWD ATX experience is a couple
of hundred documented runs on my Gen 3.

BUT......are you talking stock or highly modified? HUGE difference in how to
drive it.

Thanks Mike, That's a good reference point.
I was thinking a standard quick-shift kit would help prolong the trans
life - usually does.
Any opinions?
Any idea what typically dies in an ATX in this car?
I thought they had a known "weak link" from the factory, at least in the
first year cars.

I found that I still had a post from 10/13/2000 about drag racing a Gen 3
SHO.

Following this post, I will forward it along. It's titled "Drag Racing
Suggestions"

Stone stock - at least at first.
Then they'll get to lightening it.
