('90 SHO)
In the past two days, I've had a front tire explode on the interstate, A/C
blow warm, A/C clutch burn, engine overheat, and rad fan quit.
Main concern now is the fan - usually, when the fan goes bad, the A/C spits,
but it's not doing that (maybe 'cuz of the A/C problems, but maybe not).
The A/C clutch is engaging and spinning now BTW.
I guess I could swap out the fan assy from my '89, but please remind me if
there is something else I should try first. (It's hot as hell out!) Thanks!
Secondly, my white slicers (white car) have 215-60/16s. I have a beautiful
225-50/16 Potenza S02 Pole Position off my ex-RX-7 in the garage. Would it
be a HUGE mistake to put it on the back and replace the others with
225-50/16 when they wear out (same time in the front, of course!)? I know
all about the rim width issues, but 6" is the MINIMUM for 225-50, and the
speedo error issues. Use is primarily as a daily driver around town - no
performance and VERY limited interstate use.
Thanks again in advance,
mm in sunny FL

You want the wider tires on the drive wheels. I'm not
one for mixing and matching tire sizes and
brands/types but to each his own..

Ian,
Thanks - I know - I only mentioned the back because I only need one tire and
I don't want to invest in a size that I don't want in the long term.
Plus, I'm cheap! <G>

I'd suggest swapping out the CCRM first. It's easier to swap, and is more likely to be your problem with fan engagement. The letter on top of the two units must match, though.
If you problem with the A/C is the compressor clutch is slipping due to age, lucky you.
215/50-16 is too short for comfort and you must shift constantly as you run through the gears quickly even in easy driving. 225/50-16 will be just bearable for ride comfort and handling, and cornering may suffer due to the tire needing a wider rim. Depends on the mfg of the tire. Most 225 sieries tires I've used preferred to be mounted on 7" rims. If you're only concerned about the tires being safe on the rims for around town easy driving, no sweat there. I personally would not replace the other two with the same, though. I'd let front drive duty tear through the remainder of the 50 series tires ASAP. Speedo will stink, but the sooner they're gone, the better. BTDT.
