Thanks to everyone that answered my questions concerning my Mustang.
This weekend I got around to changing my rear brake shoes this weekend.
I finally got the drums off by heating the rear axle and drum were they meet.
I then slammed the axle and drum with a rubber mallet about 10 good shot,
until the drums popped off. It turns out that I didn't need to retract
the
shoes, the drums were held on by rust on the axle, not a ridge on the drum.
Anyway I was amazed to find that the shoes still had about 5/32 of pad left
after 82,000 miles.
Oh well I still have to figure out why the idle drops off with the
accesories on, and I still have to replace the heater core, which I sure
is going to be a bitch.
Thanks
Bill

I am writing this letter to thank everyone for their advice on what to do
about the Mustang. I might try your idea Mike((email redacted)).
Sounds like it might work. It won't pass emissions, I knew that when I
saw what was under the hood and found that it didn't have a catalytic
converter. I was going to park it until the spring to work on the
emmisions stuff and to put a bigger cam in it. I could also talk my dad
into going into a half/half thing. He is going to be retiring within a
few years probably, and I might be able to talk him into something a bit
faster than his Subaru V8(HAHA) Or I could just buy it and wait for it
to become an antique, then it won't need emissions or inspection or
anything. But I think that it would be sort of hard to wait well into
the next century just to drive the thing on the street. Forget it, I'll
just work on the mighty 1.9 if Mike's plan doesn't work. Thanks again.
