Hi All,
Does anybody know of any lists or newsgroups available here on the net
which cater to sport trucks? More specifically, the truck I'm interested
in is the Ford Splash.
Also, I am thinking of buying aftermarket rims for my '87 LX 5.0L and I
am wondering what I should look for in rim sizes, back spacing etc. I have
been looking at a couple of rims which appear in a Sport Truck magazine
which are available in both 16" and 17" sizes but I don't know if they are
available in a bolt pattern or back spacing to fit my Mustang. I have seen
a Ford Splash with the 16" 5-spoke Mustang rims on it, would it be hard
then to adapt a set of rims which would fit a Splash to my Mustang (both
the rims I'm looking at have been fitted to Splash's)? Since the Mustang
may see occasional track/race use, should I keep certain criteria in mind
when selecting a set of rims? Should most (if not all) aftermarket rims be
capable of withstanding cornering forces under race conditions on the
Mustang? As you may have gathered from the above, I would like the rims to
be usable on the Splash as well...if I ever get one that is!
Thanks in advance...Glen
PS: If Barry Marzin is still out there, would he please drop me a line.

In the back of R&T I found an ad for mail order wheels and tires: Exotic
Wheel and Tire in FLA somewhere - (800) 767-0890. They seemed like
a real hands-on outfit, that enjoyed juggling rim widths, offset, etc -
unlike Tire Rack. I had called the Rack inquiring about Taurus rims, and
some uninitiated "sales associate" gave me the "you-can't-play-around-
with-offsets-like-you-used-to-you-old-hot-rodding-dinosaur" story.
Then I called Exotic and got to talk with the guy who was playing around
with Taurus applications for them - much more the way I like it.
Call 'em and chat.

Recently there was a discussion about Exotic Wheel & Tire
on the CARS forum on CompuServe. While I won't post the entire
thread, I will post the latest message. FWIW, YMMV:
I just purchased a set of 17"x8" Racing Dynamic RGR wheels shod with
Dunlop 235/45ZR-17 tires from a GREAT mail order outfit in San Antonio,
Texas called Motorsport Designs. They really treated me right, and gave
me a GREAT deal. The advice I received was appreciated, and the products
were received in excellent condition as promised. [Big contrast from the
BAD experience I had with a shady Tallahassee Florida called Exotic Wheel
& Tire.]
If you are looking for new tires or new wheel & tire combos, I highly
recommend you call Motorsport Designs at 210/366-3636 (in TX);
210/366-3366 (out of state). Be sure to ask to speak to the Sales
Manager, Billy Mitchell, tell him I referred you from Compuserve and he'll
give you a great deal.
