This is nothing high tech, but I thought I would pass it along.

I was water pump shopping at my local Ford dealer last Saturday
morning. I wanted a pump for an '86 5.0 HO. They did not have
one. How about a '87 Bronco 5.0? Yep, got that. OK, they are
both 5.0 engines, both serpentine belt, so what's the difference?

I looked at the castings, they were identical down to the casting
numbers. Flip it over. Wow, look at this....The size of the water
holes in the back plate are different. The 5.0 HO for the Mustang
has much smaller water holes in the plate than the truck. I asked
to look at more. We opened more boxes, Crown Vic 5.0, T-Bird 5.0....

Depending upon the model year, the only difference I could tell was
the size of the water holes in that back plate. The truck was the
biggest, the Mustang the smallest, the Crown Vic in the middle.

If you have cooling/heating problems, or are doing engine swaps,
or desperately need an "out of stock" pump, you may want to keep
this in mind.

I am placing the '86 5.0 HO into my Bronco, so the truck pump
seems to be the correct choice for me. But, that's another
project report for another day (hopefully soon :-).
