While assambling my 351w with a fluidamper I noticed that the timing
pointer does not match up to the TDC on the Fluidamper. Do you have to get
a special pointer or what??? The keyway on the crank and the dot on the
chain gear line up (roller chain with not advance or retard built in), and
the piston is at what looks like TDC (through the plug hole), but the mark
does not line up??
Has anybody had a similar problem???

Well I have both pointers and neither one lines up.... The damper is
different from a 289/302, but I have a 351w cover so I still don't see why
they dont line up.

This is not uncommon, even with stock parts. How far off is it, and
what technique did you use to determine it does not match?
It could be a sign from the engine gods not to use the damper......
