I don't know much about ABS so I thought now might be a good time to toss out
some speculation as fact, and see if it barks.

ABS is a moving target. Excellent factual claims made today may not apply 6
months down the road. I expect ABS to improve on top of the line cars, and to
have cheap inferior (but still pretty good) systems show up across most
models.

I remember reading a report on a dumb ABS system that simply pulsated the
braking force any time the pedal is pushed down hard. No sensors, etc., and it
worked pretty well. Not quite as well as smart ABS, but a fraction of the
cost.

Flames etc.
I use a simple mail reader (elm) and I have a devil of a time making email
replies directly, and suspect the same for other people. This means I have to
choose between keeping a tidbit of potential advice to myself, or post it to
the whole list.

The list does make a good filter though. VERY few dumb posts go unchallenged,
and anybody on the list for more than a week or so knows who all of our
experts really are. I assume though, the few times we mortals do get something
right it does take a bit of the burdon off them.
