We just received delivery of a new laser red Mustang GTS with 5 speed,
AC delete and 3.08 gears.
I am impressed with the stability of the chassis. Even my braced '87
seems a little
soft in the chassis, this car is SOLID! Very little (maybe a 6 point
cage) is needed in that department. The engine feels strong - not as
strong as I'd like, but strong none the less. I anticipate mid-14's at
LACR when we go next week.
Since I have Koni's on my '87, I am going to transfer them over. I am
getting a K & N filter from a friend who is a dealer (He gives KILLER
price breaks!), and am going to bump the timing to about 16 degrees. I
also am going to install a dynomax catback system (The car seems TOO
quiet) and either an aftermarket or a Cobra pulley set. Hopefully, I
can make this car somewhat competitive in FS. When I get tired of FS,
I am going to get a GT-40 long block and Cobra brakes and compete in
ESP.
I have heard that the SOHC and DOHC loses some low RPM torque and
beefs up a little (200 lbs or so) due to new regs, so I think this car
was a better choice (it weighs a little over 3100 lbs.)
This car looks great! My wife and I are happy we bought it. I will
post performance numbers as I get them.

Please let us know, with the a/c delete maybe, but I will still be impressed
with 14.5 if you are on stock radials. Regardless, a full report will be
very interesting to many here I believe.

If it doesn't affect smog equipment, it's legal. If the parts don't
directly cause damage to parts, the warranty is still valid. And.... If
the slowing down of the alternator or water pump were to create a
warranty problem (not likely), the dealer can't say they won't cover a
bad oil pump (an example) because of it.
Dealers of course hate warranty work and will try to give you the run
around. Any excuse to not do the work is what they are always looking
for.

He didn't say "not legal in California", or "not 'legal' as far as the
warranty is concerned." He said, "not legal in FS". That means that you
can't do this and still run in FS in SCCA Solo II (unless Charlie and I
don't understand what "aftermarket or Cobra pulley set" means.)

Sorry, but that doesn't make it legal in F/Stock. If you douldn't have
ordered a GTS built with those parts on factory production line, it's not
legal in SCCA Stock Category.
