Fellow Fordnatics,

I am the proud owner of a 1988 Mustang LX 5.0 with about 52,000
miles on it. It is basically stock. The only modifications to
date are:
-K&N Filter
-Air silencer removed
-Timing bumped to 13 Degrees
-Kenny Brown Strut Tower and G-Load Braces
-Mustangs Unlimited Subframe Connectors
-Central Coast Mustang Caster Camber Plates
-New paint courtesy of FOMOCO
-3.55 rear gear
-Fittipaldi 16x7.5 5 stars W/ 245VR50/16 rear & 225VR50/16
front

As you can see, this is not to much. Since I am in the military, I
am looking for some cheap(I know nothing is cheap!) modifications.
I am also interested in info on TPS adjustment. Is it worth it?
How about Ram Air set-ups? What is the next logical step? I am
looking for a dependable car, as I drive 25 miles one-way to work.
I know heads and intake are great, but what else to start with. I
am still saving for an Edlebrock intake and GT-40 heads. Thanks
for any help that you may give me.

SPC Sean Fain

P.S. If I spend to much my wife will shoot me!

SPC Sean Fain wrote about cheap mods to a 88 5.0...

My $.02, next up would be the exhaust. I installed Walker Dynomax cat
backs and SVO 1 5/8" stainless headers. The car pulls much stronger (an
eleven on the Spinal Tap - Seat O'pants meter) through the rpm range. BTW
mine is a Speed density 87. Did the same mods to a buddy's 86 gt and they
loved it too. And with the miles you have on your car the exhaust system
has just about rusted out and needs replacement right??? :-) I also like
the Hurst shifter I installed, especially with the shifter stops so I don't
jam the shifter into the glove box going for third.
