Actually I think until NAFTA, vehicles sold in Mexico had to be "built"
there. Assembled is more like it. I know Ford made trucks there and I'd
lay odds that that is where they exported Ford trucks from to the rest of
Latin America. But.... The Mexican Fords rarely are the same as the
U.S. version. The trucks have different sheetmetal inside the bed that I
know of. Ran across one once. The mid-80's Thunderbirds had less engine
options, zero I think. The V6 was it if I am not mistaken. Apparently
on coupe versions of Mustangs were made. Volkswagen has similar
results. Actually it turned out that a VW bus could be had in Mexico
with an engine like the Porsche engine. But not here. Hmmm. I'm sure
there are zillions of other examples.
