hello all,

hope the collective Ford-Think-Tank of the net can help me out here.

This weekend I installed a HyFire IV in my Merkur XR4Ti (which has
an EEC IV with 'normal' TFI ignition).

After testing all connections and running EEC selftests I first ran the
engine with the bypass plug. This takes the HyFire out of the loop and
effectively gives you stock ignition again. Since I had made a few
explicit soldering connections instead of using crimped on connectors I wanted
to make sure I had not screwed up the ignition. All was fine. I then put
the Mallory box in and it still worked. Cool. So I take it for a testdrive.

I noticed that the engine would 'buck' or misfire every now and then
(say every 15 seconds or so) when cruising slowly (at about 1500 rpms or so).
When accellerating there was more pickup, I am
quite sure of that. So I put the bypassplug back in and the car ran as before.
No more holding misfire, stumbling.

The next day I went back to Supershops where I got the box and they replaced
the unit. Still the same. I have hooked up the tachometer and IDM to the
'tach' connector on the HyFire box per instructions. I have new Autolite
Platinum plugs with KEM spiral core suppressor wires.

Any suggections?

thanks much guys,

Sander
