Has anyone any experience with MAC long tube headers on
a late model mustang? Preferably 87 & up years, driven on
the street daily. Did you notice a performance change at the track,
or even seat of the pants feel. Are they louder inside the car ?
Did it seem to get hotter inside the car ?

thx in advance

John

86 with a 93 GT-40 SVO long block. does that count?

Well, the engine I have can tak advantage of the larger 1 5/8 dia
tubes. it runs very well, especially where the cam makes the
power.

louder, yes. the rumppty-rump of the cam echoing off the full tubes
is a sound I can live with. but then I don't have cats, and run
with 2.5 inch dia exhaust and Walkers also.
I don't step on it in residental areas, and around police.
the car really wails as it gets to 6000 rpm.
Hotter? dunno. doesn't seem like it. Hope it does tho, as my heater
core has died, and is bypassed, and the heat will be appreciated in the
winter. (gotta get it fixed)

I have a 1985 Mustang GT which I just installed the MAC 1 5/8 Full length
headers on. I also installed their H pipe and cat back system. Although I am
not a good example here to determine performance because my car had Ported
factory heads a Performer RPM/600 DP holley, E303 Cam, and a stock single
exhaust before the headers I felt like I gained somewhere around 40HP. You
can really feel it in the seat of the pants throughout the RPM range. The
fit of the headers was okay but they where a bit of a pain to install having
to bring the engine up very far out of the car to get them in. The H pipe
seems okay quality and fit but the tailpipe section did not really fit that
well and I am working now to make some additional brackets. All in all I
think the MAC system is worth the money but the fit could have been better.
You might want to look at the BBK full lengths. Perhaps they are a little
more but they may fit better. The sound is for sure louder than stock. I
feel like most of the increase was from the mufflers (Walker Dynomax) and
the lack of the CATS. I only drive the car as a part time street car and so
the noise is fine. I'm not sure if it would bother me if it was my only ride.
