howdy jack,
i'm from dearborn heights. i usually race at detroit dragway since the
inspection is a little less stringent (didn't have fire jacket and 3" belts
last year) and at milan also.
(also an important note, my step-son caught a guy trying to steal my street
tires while i was in line at detroit last year. the guy ran off when
confronted. be careful if you go there and take a friend; don't leave
anything unattended.)
milan is a great track and have not had any problems in the 6 years of
racing. its a cruz, though for me since i drive my car to the track. and
getting back after 11:00 on a wednesday and getting up to work is no fun.
this is why i sometimes opt for detroit instead.
probably see you out there!

Hi Dan.....
Have you (or anyone else on the list) ever visited the Henry
Ford museum...? I live in northern Alabama and will be in the
VA/W. VA area this summer for a reunion and I've always
wanted to see the Ford museum and Greenfield Village (being
such an incurable Fordnatic). But also I hear there are some
railroad things there as well, including one of the earliest diesel
electrics known to man that is simular to one I am heading up
the restoration of for our museum here. Okay, so it's not a Ford
(it's an Alco Boxcab) but at least it's not an EMD (Electromotive
Division of G*neral M*tors)..... [
Is a trip to Ford museum worth
the effort to see...?? What kind of neighborhood is it in...?
(also an important note, my step-son caught a guy trying to steal my street

Hummmm, this kinda gives me the willies.....! [

Hi Tommy,
I used to work in one of the buildings next to the Ford Museum. At the
time (1979), it was located on a fairly open street, Oak Grove Blvd,
I think. The museum has all sorts of relics and memorabilia from the
Industrial Revolution as well as automotive history. I was much younger
when I visited, so I don't remember the trains. But, I think anybody
visiting Dearborn should spend some time there. (I'm not sure if one
day is sufficient to see everything.) I never went to see Greenfield
Village, probably because of the way it was described to me. They've
recreated an old town, with people in period costumes and vehicles, and
there IS a vintage train that runs through that. Don't remember what
else is there. The other thing you should do is to visit the Dearborn
automobile assembly plant, where the Mustangs are built. I think they
still have guided tours there. (Oh yes, they haul you around in those
big busses built by GMC.)
I'm currently in Pasadena, CA, trying to keep dry.

That is horrible. I have never had any problem with anyone trying to
lift anything at the track. I'm dissapointed that someone would stoop
that low. Yeah, I like Milan much better than Detroit Dragway. I drive my
car to the track also. What a pain in the butt. Have lug all my rims and
tires with me, changed them at the track, change fuel, ect...

I am from Livonia (a suburb of metro Detroit). I havnt been to Detroit
dragway in 10 years, since I had a few bad experiences there. I think
that Milan is great. Yes it is a drive for me too, but the people are
friendly and help you out. I help others short on tools, and they return
the favor. I am an occational racer. Mostly on Super Ford weekend and
maybe only 2 to 3 times more.
Look me up in the phone book if you like.
