Yes, indeed I do. I've got one in my 4x4, and since it's the same filter
size that was in my easrlier truck, it was in my earlier truck as well.
I've well over 70,000 miles on it, and a lot of those miles were in some
pretty dusty and dirty environments. The filter is still in fine shape,
and seems like it will last forever.
As for its filtering ability, that's another matter entirely. Thus far
I've only done one oil ananlysis, and the results were pretty good. I used
the oil for 5,000 miles over a six month period, and the driving
encompassed some rough 4-wheeling, a fair amount of highway driving, a
good number of miles (and time) in some dusty environments, mud, and the
like. My analysis showed that there were somewhat elevated silicon levels
- more than the other vehicles with K&N filters by as much as 2 1/2 times.
I would say that my vehicle ran the longest in the toughest environment
compared to the other vehicles in the test.
While my silicon levels (silicon represents the amount of dirt in the oil)
were higher even than the fellow who had 9,000 miles on his oil, it was
not so high that it would be cause for alarm. However, based on the
numbers I achieved, I'd be cautious about using the K&N in harsh
environments, especially when trying to use extended oil drain intervals.
My opinions thus far are backed up with facts, although we still don't
have as much information as we need to arrive at hard conclusions. We
actually test the filtering efficiency of the K&Ns in real world
situations, not on flow benches or dynos. We are able to see the amount
of wear causing particulates in a given engine, and once we have more
information in our database our findings should take on some real
signifigance.
