If my 1973 Ford F250 360 has been sitting, it usually won't start unless I
pump the gas a few times before I crank it. I think the fuel filter may be
bad. What do U think? BTW, does anybody know about what kind of Mileage I
should be getting?

On many carburated cars you SHOULD pump the gas before starting. This
primes the engine and sets the choke and cold idle speed. I don't think
you have a problem since you didn't mention warm starting problems.
I would suggest pushing the accelerator to the floor 2-3 times
before cranking. If it doesn't start quickly, wait 10 seconds and crank
again. This works for me. Modify it to whatever works for you.

Let me see...I know I have an automatic transmission. I don't know the rear
gear size. Exactly what does that mean/how does it effect the workings of
the truck? I don't know the size of the tires, but I'll check tommorow. I
know it weighs 4000#. I do mostly highway driving, but I'm only getting
about 8 mpg. I just got the truck about a month ago because I needed a
vehicle and I wanted a truck. I'm now trying to learn as much as I can to
maintain it.
It usually only needs to be pumped after sitting 6+ Hours or overnight. I've
let it sit for 3 or 4 and didn't need to pump it.
I have no idea what kind of carb I'm running, but I'll try to find out.
That's sort of my problem and the reason I signed onto this list: I don't
really know what I should be looking for or at! Questions like yours are
helping though. At least I'm learning what to look for.
To anyone else out there: HELP AND COMMENTS ARE WELCOME AND DESIRED!!!
