Re: Fordnatics FTP Archive!
Hello all. I've got a system set up for the Fordnatice FTP Archive.
If you have somthing you'd like on the archive, email it to me
((email redacted)) and I'll set it up. Later on you'll be able to
upload directly into the archive, but since I'll be setting this
stuff up by hand, it will be easier on me if I got it by email.
If you have *anything* that you feel might benefit the Fordnatics
group, by all means post it! this includes articles (with the
author's permission, of course,) graphics (maybe a photo of you
and your car?) troubleshooting hints, anything! (Skod, are you
listening? How about that "Building the Perfect Mustang" article
of yours?)
In addition to your submission, I'd like you to send a short
(10 lines or so,) text file describing the submission. If its
a photo of your car, send a *short* description of it. If you
want to go into further into detail, send another text file. The
purpose of the short text file is to give someone calling the archive
an idea of the file before downloading it. For example, if I uploaded
a JPEG image of my car, I might send three files:
KingCar.JPG - A photo of my 88 GT.
KingCar.INF - A short (10 line) description. (INF <=> INFormation)
KingCar.TXT - My car's "life story"
If you are sending graphics, please try to send them (uuencoded, of
course,) in JPEG format. It's reasonably standard, and it does a
far better job of compressing images than the GIF format does. I
will accept GIF images, but I won't convert them to JPEG.
One last note -- PLEASE include "ARCHIVE:" in your subject so I can
quickly identify archive submissions! Otherwise I probably will
delete the message. I get a *ton* of email each tay, and this will
help me find the important stuff from all the other junk I get!
Once I get a few submissions, I'll put them in the archive and
publish the address. Right now, it will be only for FTP access,
but I plan to add an HTTP home page for Mosaic users when I
figure out how to do so.
