Hi Folks,
Several points from todays posting( 27th).
Firstly Eric Osters Fairlane. The problem appears to be in the radiator,
which on these models has the in and outlets on the same side of the
radiator(Dumb idea, took a few years for the factory to get this right )
so that any blockage or restriction gives you a very small effective
rad.
A thorough checkover of the rad. will be worth it. Next I would use a
thermostat. If you are dead keen on not having one at least cut the
centre out of an old one and install the remaining ring to slow the flow
a little.
Next Bob,
T-Bird rocker covers didn't mean a special engine, unfortunatly.
But they look cool. By this time all the 390 options were the available
across the range.but the covers and cleaner will have been transplated
at some time in the cars life.(although you could option the T-Bird mill
on earlier cars) Check that it isn't HI-PO anyway
I would step up the 390 under them(or fit a 428 and leave the covers and
cleaner in place.....).
Check out some of the earlier shorty headers and TRI-Power stuff for
inspiration. These will also cost heaps but some sort of freer flowing
exhaust is essential ( stock peice of box section really holds these
back).
BTW RON BUTLER who builds the BEST Cobra replicas is an expatriot New
Zealander. Used to build winning pro stocks in the 70's too.
