I think you are confusing Starliners with Sunliners. The Sunliners
were convertibles and were produced under that name for several years
in the early sixties. There's good reason for the confusion, however.

Starliners were only made in the '60 and '61 model years. They were
the ones with the swept-back aero roof. Ford realized that the
formal-roofed '62 Galaxies needed aero help and convinced NASCAR to allow
them to run a '62 Sunliner (the convertible) with a "removable"
hardtop (which was the '60/'61 Starliner roof!). NASCAR permitted
these obviously race-bred hybrids for a couple of months during the '62
race season, then banned them when the GM & Mopar guys complained.
Ford just tried to hang on for the rest of the '62 race year 'cuz they
knew that the 63 1/2 fastback Galaxies with the 427 would be ready
for Daytona in February of '63.
