Has anyone heard of Ford's plans for their "Suburban"? While we were in
Dearborn last summer at the 40th anniversary convention of the T-Bird, we
toured the Ford design center, and I asked about it then. I was told that
Ford was working on one, and it would be a 97 model. No names were
mentioned. Since then, one of my local dealers has said that Ford has
backed off the production. I saw in Motor Trend shortly after our trip about
the Dodge Adventurer, and in that article, they mentioned the Ford unit.
Since my wife drives one of the bow tie units, and I don't like it, I'm
anxious for Ford to come through for me. Appreciate any info.

I saw what you describe once at a rest are in central Minnisota near
St.Cloud. It was maroon in color, and there was full of old people; it
didn't look like it was a test vehicle or anything, so I was really
intrigued. The front half looked like a normal F-150 ,with a four door
cab. The back end had what could've been a really nice fitting topper,
but it fit too well. There was no area where the plastic or fiberglass
hit the top of the bed wall, however it was more like a one piece side of
a Suburban. Another interesting thing I saw on it was the badge where the
F-150 went, was a badge that said 'C-150 Classic.

thats all I know.

This was probably a Centirion, made by Centurion Vehicles in White
Pigeon, MI. They've been making similar conversions for years.

First of all, Dodge's suburban fighter has been offically cancelled,
according to Dodge press release. Secondly, Ford is supposedly creating a
new 4-door bronco based on the new f-150. Third, the C-150 classic is an
aftermarket conversion by a company called Centurion, hence the c-150
designation. I belive that these trucks were based on long bed F-150s,
but don't quote me on that part...

I've seen one too (it was white), about ten years ago. It was a
custom/conversion based on a circa '85 four-door pickup. Very pretty.

Hugh,
I have seen something like a Ford "suburban" called a
"Metropolitan" on the roads around here in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia.
At least that is what the badges say. It may be a custom conversion. I
have no other info other than it is about time Ford did this!

Hugh:
When I lived in Virginia, I saw a one-off Suburan type FORD Truck, but I
am pretty sure it was some sort of factory special. I think it
was called a Metropolitan. Basically, it was a FORD Bronco with
another set of doors placed behind the normal doors on an elongated
frame. It was massive compared to a typical Bronco and had an EFI
460 for a motor. I also seem to recall it had a total of four
bucket seats and one bench seat in the rear, with a huge center
console, was 4 wheel drive, had the TTB and 31" tires, and was white on
red... Haven't seen anything else like it since, and this was back
in '92... I also remember seeing a small article in 4 Wheel and Off
Road about a Suburban like FORD truck, but have not heard or seen
anything lately...
