I bought a used Bronco last weekend. (1988, 80K) and
drove to Phoenix over Xmas (round trip about 1600 miles).

Before I set out, the truck transmission seemed fine. The
shifts were easy and very smooth. However, it seems to have
developed a problem since I got back.

Shifts from 1st to 2nd are great, but when it shifts from
2nd to 3rd at about 45mph the car jerks, and I hear a loud
"thump" from beneath my feet (I can feel it through my seat
too). It is especially bad when the shift is triggered by
lifting the throttle to drive along surface streets at
low speed (Continued accelleration on freeways is OK).

Question:
Is there anying inside the box that could cause this (please
say "NO"winking smiley.
Would a broken engine mount cause this? (I travelled over some
pretty rough dirt roads while on vacation).

Also, I checked out about 11 or 12 Broncos before making my
purchase. I'd say about 50% had broken exhaust manifolds and
about 50% (not always same 50%) had brakes that shudder as if
a disk is warped. Are the above "well known" problems on Ford
Broncos. What causes them?
