EGR Position on 302 trucks

What I do is have the engine idling and apply vacuum to the vacuum fitting
of the EGR valve (with a vacuum pump or like me, by mouth). The engine
should run rough or maybe even die when vacuum is applied to the valve as
you are introducing exhaust to the intake. When the vacuum is released the
engine should return to normal. If this happens, then you know the EGR valve
does open, can provide exhaust to the intake, and can reseat. If the engine
does not run rough at all, then either the EGR doesn't open or is blocked
due to carbon buildup. If it does run rough but then does not smooth out
after vacuum is released, then that means it cannot reseat properly. This
could mean carbon buildup (cleaning required) or a bad valve.
