Tom,

I have seen this and been there. I used to think the most important thing
was being fast on radials, then it was DOT cheater slicks (MT Sportsman Pros,
Hoosier quick times ,ect..) and now its slicks. I am still impressed with people
who can drive fast on radials. I havent done it in along time. The last time I
ran on radials I think I was running low 8.50's. Then I went to cheater slicks
and got the car down to 8.10's. Most recently I have gone to 4.10 and switched
to slicks. This has netted low 7.80's @ 86mph on the motor.

I do more than my share of street racing, most of it is pre-planned. I usually
go prepared. Normally running cheater slick just in case the cops come and run
us off. I am definetly handicapped now when it comes to racing on radials the
4.10's make most of first and second gear useless, but I still wont pass up the
chance at a new Camaro, or high tech rice rocket.

This is not meant as a flame in any way, I am just saying its different strokes
for different folks. To go your fastest you need to run on slick. Another note,
slicks are much more consistant.

BTW, Tom, were do you race.

Well, with all the discussion of drag racing on radials, I'd like to
know how my times stack up. I average 9.646 @ 73.246 1/8th mile (14.955
@ 92.919 1/4,) with a best of 9.311 1/8th (14.520 @ 94.82 1/4). This is
on a *slightly* modified stock motor (13 degree timing, 2-chamber
Flowmasters, Hurst shifter (no powershifting,) and a K&N filter. The tires
are Falken FK-06u 225/60VR15's.

P.S. If anyone has the formula to convert trap speed to horsepower, I
would like to see it.

My 93 Cobra - stock ran a 9.17 @ 78 in the 1/8th. I haven't made it to the
1/4 yet.

However I have since added 3.55's flowmasters, ram air (if that made any
difference)
and K&N. I do powershift though. Headers are next.

Will report when I get to a track.
