First while browsing through the Summit catalogue I saw three
books on Holley carburetors all selling for $14.95. I was
wondering if anyone knew which one might be the best. The books
are:

Super Tuning and Modifying Holley Carburetors
by Dave Emmanuel 128 pages

Holley Rebuilding and Modifying
Author not given 128 pages

Super Tuning Holley Carburetors
by Alex Walordy No Page Count

Want to get the most out of the 4180C carburetor that came with
my car as opposed to switching to a different one. The first book
talks about the 4150, 4160, 2300, 4500, and 4360 model carbs,
the second book says it's a step by step rebuild guide but doesn't
list specific carb model numbers, and the third book brags about
not using "BIG" words. Obviously don't want a book that doesn't
address my carb or one like it, or a book that only talks about
racing and makes the carbs illegal or unstreetable. Not terribly
afraid of big words. What I want is a book that talks about different
jet sizes, different spring set ups, and the whole deal on double
pumping. Maybe how to prolong the life of the power valve and
other performance tweaks that can be done. Ideally there would be
a listing of the different Holley hop-up kits and how to install and
tune them. I'm interested in any feedback about these books or if
there is another book out there that may be even better.

Secondly, Is there a news stand/book store in the south SF bay
area that has Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords magazine. I'm
looking for the issue that had the header comparison (April or
May 95). I have tried Barnes & Noble, B. Dalton's, and Brentano's
with no luck. As long as I'm asking, if it could be in the Santa
Clara, Campbell, Lawrence Expwy area then so much the better.

Thanks!

Not too basic at all Dan. Your explaination was just what I needed. I had
just asked myself earlier today, "Ok. so what does a choke do? Exactly
what's going on with this carburetor anyway?"

I'll take a look/tinker with the truck and then get back to you. I'm about
to go get some antifreeze to flush the cooling system and maybe change the
spark plugs and feul Filter.

Yes the truck is 22 (23 in December) and I'm 24 (25 in August). I don't
think very much preventative maintenence has been done. In fact, it looks as
though it has all it's original parts, but then, I'm not sure. It has 70k
miles on it. It was used mainly as a farm truck, so it didn't travel far.

Thanks again. I'll get back to U with more info as I get it.

Did I miss something, or did this go out as a private email? I keep an
archive of all of the fordnatics messages and I can't find the message that
this references. If what got sent was what I think it was ( a primer on
carburator operation) I would like a copy. Could someone please forward
this to me? Preferably, this would be the author since you shouldn't
forward someone else's mail without permission.

Thanks,
Stan
