I'm thinking of adding a spacer between my intake and carb. This decision
comes mostly because my air-cleaner is hitting the new Duraspark distributor
(due to the larger cap I added). I would also like to see if it changes
my performance or helps out my carb problems. So.....
Should I get a 4-hole spacer, or a open spacer???
I have a 351W, 9:1 CR, Edelbrock performer intake, Holley 600 vac. sec.,
CompCams 260H cam, etc. I have saw a 4-hole spacer advertised saying
that it is better with 2-plane intakes because it doesn't mess up the
vacuum signal. I plan on getting one of the phenolic (sp?) plastic ones,
1" or so in heighth. Any suggestions, comments, or ideas would be great.
Thanks.

Use the 4-hole, something just a little larger than the holes in
the carb. On every engine we have tested on the dyno, a 4-hole
has always produced a power increase, and an open spacer has killed
it. We have not yet concluded why, although we have several theories.
Now the disclaimer :-). This is obviously very dependent upon the
rest of the engine configuration. In fact, I don't remember testing
on anything other than a single plane manifold.
