I'm trying to find out exactly which of the larger Ford engines have the
solenoid on the starter itself. I am told that all Fords do since 1989 on
the Crown Vics and Town Cars, and since 1992 on all other Fords. These
newer ones have a really small solenoid.

What I'm looking for right now are the ones with the "Delco Style" one
which is identical to the GM solenoid except that the tang is cut off the
flange end. Can anyone help me? I've seen this style on 460s, and am told
they might be on 429s and maybe some 390s.

Here's the reason for this search: We make a solenoid which will fit
those vehicles. Our solenoid has a computer chip inside which prevents
your car or truck from being started and driven away even if you leave
the keys in it. That is, unless you first enter your code by turning the
key to the start position a couple of times (3 to 7 digits - easy to change).
We've been selling these to the GM community for almost 8 years, and now
that I've put a couple on 460s, I need to know what else they fit on. We
will have one to fit the new Fords very soon. The older ones with the
solenoid on the fender well or firewall we won't be able to make, because
they could still be hot wired or bypassed. Our current one cannot be
jumped across or bypassed.

BTW, we have a new home page erinet.com/kenny where you can
see more information, or you can ftp to ftp.erinet.com in the /pub/kenny
directory. Some may have to use IP of 198.6.245.65
