Hi All,

A friend has recently purchased a 1986 5.0 Mustang engine and AOD
transmission to swap into his 1968 Cougar. What's involved in wiring
up the EEC-IV? Are there any stand alone wiring harnesses that are
worth the price? Also, he would like to install full length headers,
but otherwise keep the engine stock. I've heard that putting the
exhaust sensor at the collector of a full length header can cause
trouble, since the exhaust gases get colder the farther they travel,
fooling the EEC-IV. Is this really a problem? Is it better to plumb
the sensor into one of the primaries?

Thanks

Dan Jones

Dan,

I have not seen the catalog but supposedly the SVO has a wiring harness
for non-standard applications. Also, Windsor-Fow Engineering in Appley
Valley CA makes custom harnesses.

Good Luck,

Dan,

SVO currently sells a complete wiring harness for the EEC-IV for
adapting an EFI 5.0 into just about anything. Don't know the cost, but
you can check out the Motorsport catalog for the part number and call a
dealer near you.

Another option is to get the wiring harness out of a wrecked late model
Mustang. This way, you can get the processor and the harness for one
low(er) price. You can either hunt for your own at your local wrecking
yard or get one from one of the places that specializes in Mustangs:

East side: Menard Auto Sales - (603) 887-4049 in Derry, NH.
West side: Autumn Fleet sales - (818) 340-9444 in Canoga Park, CA.

These are just the two that I know of, and the backs of those Mustang
related rags will have more listings. I've purchased stuff from both
places, and I'm happy with them. Otherwise, I have no relations.

eyc
